Murphy is 2019 Handicap TT Champion

Simon Murphy took a 14 point lead over Simon Elkington at the start of the last TT of the 2019 season this evening. This has been the most closely contested finish to a TT season for a number of years and before tonight Simon M had posted 7 PBs taking his PB at the start of the season down from 27:43 to 25:12 an improvement of 2:31 over the past 18 weeks.

Simon E had posted 6 PBs taking his starting PB down from 26:06 to 25:18 and this evening added another PB by finding an additional 2 seconds to end the season on 25:16.

A superb contest with both riders posting 7 PBs and only 4 seconds apart with their respective PBs.

Our congratulations to Simon Murphy for his consistency and improvement over the season to take the 2019 Handicap Trophy.

Simon Elkington was hoping to make it three wins in a row and as noted he was thwarted by 7 points to take second place. Chapeau to the old war horse Leon Bradford who had perfect attendance this year taking part in all 18 TT’s plus the Ashman and finishing in third spot at the age of 77 and also manged to find another 29 seconds on his PB.

Final Handicap Placings

Simon Murphy                        238.5

Simon Elkington                     231.5

Leon Bradford                         192.5

For the last TT of the season we welcomed 16 riders to the start line including John Montgomery making his SNCC TT debut. Simon E was quickest home followed by Simon M and former club member James Dent in third spot.

Average time this evening was 29:47 across all riders which was the best of the season and only the second time, this season, that the average time was sub 30 minutes.

Everyone

Thank You

A few end of season thank you’s are required to those who allow the rest of us to take part in the TTs.

Without our timekeepers we would not be able to hold the TT (or it would need to be shared amongst members) and Mandy and John and turn out every Thursday no matter the weather to record the riders, allocate the numbers and record the times. This season Mike Biggs and Simon Richardson have been around to make sure that riders can be pushed off and thanks also to Mark Greenhow and John Montgomery who have volunteered when we have been short of helpers.

Mandy, in addition, provides tea, coffee and homemade cake for all riders post the TT and for cyclists this is very welcome. This obviously takes time to prepare in advance and all the riders are very grateful.

John makes sure that all the necessary signs are positioned around the course to comply with the CTT and police requirements and Mandy takes care of collecting the CTT levies that we are required to pay back to the CTT for running the TT.

Simon Richardson takes care of obtaining police and local council approval for us to hold the TT, Alistair prepares the weekly reports and monitors the PBs and in his absence Martin Bond has helped this season and Ruth Stapleton has responsibility for publishing the results on the website.

Finally, a thank you to all our members who have participated this year and to our regular guest riders who have supported the SNCC TT for many years. We look forward to welcoming all riders back in April 2020 and we would encourage all club members to try the TT – it is an enjoyable and social evening after you have pushed hard for 11.2 miles around the Abbotsley course.

Next TT – April 2020 – Only 34 weeks to wait.

Handicap Results

Quick reminder that for the Handicap Trophy points are awarded for the number of riders on the night less Guests and First Time Members. So tonight 16 riders and 12 points on offer. A Handicap Time of 25 minutes or less means that you have either matched your PB or improved on it. A Handicap Time greater than 25 minutes shows how much you are off your PB.

Congratulations to Simon E for taking the maximum points.
