Another successful weekend for a number of our members, 6 doing Time Trials and Pat doing another Road Race. It looks like our "best" time trialists are doing the club proud. It is so good to see our name on the Cycling Websites and being written about. Good luck to all our members riding the Tour of Cambridgeshire next weekend.

Frances Lammyman Sat 27th May. Icknield 10 mile TT F15/10 3rd women

My fourth time trial of the year and second open event.

My new aero socks arrived on the morning of the race, and I had my new skinsuit ready to go! I was excited to see what time I could do as I hadn't done this course before. I wasn't sure what to expect but I aimed to beat my Spin Data predicted time.

In the last few time trials I've struggled to get in the zone straight away and have held back a little, so this time I tried to push hard straight away. The course starts with a significant down hill so it's tricky to find the right gear, but as soon as I was on the flat I put the power down and tried to tuck my head as much as I could.

It felt like a really long way out (with a slight cross-headwind) and a slightly shorter way back. Once I'd gone over the final roundabout I had 2km to go so I gave it everything I had. My legs and lungs were burning as I crossed the line.

I smashed my predicted time, beating it by 30 seconds! It was a great confidence boost and I'm looking forward to the next one and still got a mention on CTT.

May 27th ECCA Championship 50 mile TT, PBs, 1st place in the Team Competition, prizes and a new men's club record

The Eastern Counties Cycling Association (ECCA) Championship 50-mile TT was held on Saturday 27th May on the A428 at Cambourne. Conditions were fast as it was a warm afternoon with a light breeze, and our riders certainly made the most of this opportunity. Sam McDonald posted the fastest time for the club with a 1:41:50 which gave him 5th overall and set a new club record. Nic Pillinger was close behind in 8th place with a time of 1:43:53 which was also a PB, and Shaun Jarvis came 16th, again achieving a PB with a time of 1:46:58. Together, they won the team prize, beating the 2nd place team by over 7 minutes.

The success didn't stop there though. Anastasia Bowler put in a strong performance to be the third fastest woman on the day with a time of 1:54:10. Finally, Norman King rounded off a great set of results with a time of 2:42:20, giving him 2nd place in the road bike category and a new PB for 50 miles.

Our TT team is really going from strength to strength and we hope there will be more fantastic results like these coming over the summer.

Pat Ellerbeck May 28th British Masters National road race

This was 48 miles on the 16 mile circuit at Welland. Went from the start and went into TT mode, managed to build a lead of 2 mins, and at one point thought I’d might have enough lead to even win, perish the thought, on the last lap the peloton got its act together and chased me down and caught me with 2 miles to go, my excuse was the fact the marshals were calling out time differences so they knew they were catching me!!  All set for the Tour of Cambridgeshire. Only problem: one of the oldest in the age group.
