Eighteen riders turned up in the Market Square on a cool grey morning.  Autumn is definitely in the air. Nearly every week a new rider joins us, this week was no exception so it’s a BIG St Neots CC welcome to Nigel.

Twelve Group 2 riders left the market square on this cold and grey morning following part of the ‘Chariots of Fire’ sportive route. From St Neots we headed out to the Offords where we were joined by Group 1; we all then continued through Buckden, Brampton, Huntingdon and onto the Stukeleys. On our way to Alconbury Hill, Group 1 sped on leaving us to concentrate on keeping the group together at a steady pace.

From Abbots Ripton we continued past RAF Wyton and rode onto St Ives where we left the sportive route. We then headed on to Hilton and as we approached Graveley we experienced a minor mechanical problem which was quickly resolved.

On the Toseland straight, the front riders pushed hard and hit 28 mph slowing down at the ’T’ junction for the group to reform. As we headed down Paxton Hill to St Neots, Group 1 rejoined us and we rode as one to the market square for a much needed hot chocolate and coffee to warm us up. Group 2 covered 47 miles.

Group 1, consisting of six riders, followed the same route but did an extra loop from St Ives to Pidley and back.
