Warm, sunny conditions greeted the biggest turn out of club riders this year.

A big welcome to Matt Hollywood on his first club ride.

So it was that 17 ‘Solar Cyclists’ (as one member put it) met at the market square for a choice of three runs:-

Group 2 – 58 miles

Group 1 – 75 miles (Club Sportive run)

Club Sportive ‘Risk Assessment’ - 75 miles.

Group 2 left the market square headed out through Eaton Socon to Little Staughton, Pertenhall and Swineshead.

On our way through Upper Dean to Shelton we hit a sharp left handed bend and unfortunately Adrian (Bomber) Lancaster, hit a greasy section of the road and landed very heavily, hitting his head on the road and lost consciousness. The emergency services were immediately called and we closed the road off. The ‘First Responders’ arrived within 10 minutes followed later by an ambulance. Due to the nature of Adrian’s injuries the Air Ambulance was called and landed in an adjacent field. After a lengthy assessment Adrian was eventually taken by ambulance to Hinchingbrooke Hospital.

It was decided that Group 2 would cut short their run and return back to St Neots via Tilbrook, Kimbolton and Little Staughton. As we reached the Colmworth crossroads the pace increased and the ‘Bushmead Sprint’ was on. Andy (fair-weather) Kinglake led the pack but Steve eventually overtook him and took the chequered flag.

Due to navigational problems Group 1 extended their 75 mile run by 13 miles. The good news was they only had 1 puncture this week.

The Risk Assessment group (Richard and Alistair) finished their run at 14:30 hrs.

Adrian Lancaster Update - Monday 12th March

I’ve just spoken to Adrian and I pleased to say that he is now at home.

The story so far:-

Adrian was taken from the scene of the accident by ambulance to Hinchingbrooke Hospital but after assessing his injuries he was then taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital where he had a C.T. scan and stayed in overnight for observations.

He sustained a fractured to his cheekbone, multiple fractures around his eye socket and ‘road rash’ to his leg. Adrian is due to go back to hospital on Wednesday to check the fracture to his eye socket. Adrian wishes to send a big thanks to everyone that helped him and apologises to anyone else that came off their bike.
