Sunday dawned dry but the temperature was in single figures and it was grey. Amongst the 22 riders who turned up at the Market Square, there were many jackets, leg- and arm-warmers in evidence and even the odd pair of overshoes.

This week we had two new riders join us, so it’s a BIG St Neots CC welcome to Colin and Gary.

Group 2

The group headed out to Abbotsley but by the time we reached Great Gransden, Alistair and Colin decided to go at a more sedate pace and left the group. Alistair says he very much enjoyed the ride.

From Gamlingay we continued past Sutton and pushed on towards Dutton. When we reached Biggleswade Chris decided to take a few other riders on the scenic route around the town and we met up with them on the Langford road. We carried on through Broom and by the time we reached Shuttleworth Nigel was getting hungry and decided to stop off for his second breakfast of the day. Keeping the group at a steady pace we continued through Old Warden and Cardington and onto Willington. When we reached Gt Barford the dreaded ‘Man Flu’ got the best of Tom and he decided to head home. From Wilden we continued to Colmworth (via Shrubbery Lane) and back to the Market Square for coffee where we met up with Nigel again and Group One.

Group 2 covered 48 miles at a steady pace.

Group 1

The seven riders in Group 1 left the Market Square a few minutes after Group 2 and caught them just before the Gransdens. From there, we followed more or less the same route as Group 2 except that at Potton we carried on the road towards Cockayne Hatley up the hill to the water tower and then down to Wrestlingworth. The pace was pretty strong for most of the ride but we slowed down after Great Barford until we hit the Bushmead sprint when things wound up again. A shorter than normal ride for Group 1, (just over 50 miles) at a good pace meant that, unusually, we got back to the Market Square well before Group 2.
