Rockingham Thursday 8th August

Following Alasdair's promotion from his Milton Keynes Bowl win, there were three St Neots riders in this 3rd cat group for the evening's race; Richard and Wayne making up the balance. Tim's was a lonely jersey in the 4th cat group!

Both the 4th and 3rd cat groups worked well from the start and for a while the 3rds were putting time into the chasing 2nd cat group. Halfway into the race and with the 3rds breathing down their necks the 4th cat group fell into disarray. The 3rds kept their organisation more or less intact to push straight through them. A few of them managed to latch onto the group, Tim included.

The 2nds were now starting to chip away at the time gap, but not fast enough. In the final quarter of the race, a few attacks tried to force a break and drop some of the group's passengers, but the pace was just too high. Still it was good to see all four St Neots riders going strongly in the bunch and helping to drive it along.

Onto the final lap and three riders had slipped off the front, but they weren't strong enough to stay away for long and by the final bend we were all together and still free of the 2nd cats. Richard and Wayne were well placed for the sprint, but Richard didn't have the legs to follow Wayne's lead out. Wayne took 3rd place, with the rest finishing in the bunch. The 2nd cats came in 20 seconds behind.

Finally, Wayne's 3rd place has earned him enough points for his 2nd cat licence...this Thursday should be a fun night for him...

Congratulations to Wayne from all the club members!
