The Sportive sub-committee has recently agreed the two routes for the St Neots Cycling Club Autumn Breeze Sportive. Meanwhile, the three club members representing Team GB at the recent European Sprint Tri Championships all performed extremely well. Also, read below about the many other successes that SNCC members have been having and about tghe the great new Club Run format. It's been a while since our last newsletter - the editor has been having a great time exploring the wrecks and reefs of the Northern Red Sea, but he's back on his bike now.
It seems that summer is here at last and we are all looking forward to a great weekend in the sunshine. See you up the road.
Sportive Routes Announced
The two routes for the St Neots Cycling Club Autumn Breeze sportive to be held on 6th October have just been announced. After last year's very successful event, we have decided to run two distances: 100 miles and 61 miles. So whatever your preference, there will be a distance for you. We are just in the process of finalising all the details of the event, and there will be much more detailed information in the next Newsletter, but in the meantime you can have a look at the routes here: 100 miles; 61 miles.
European Sprint Tri
No less than three St Neots Cycling Club members, Richard Hancock, Chris Ritchie and Tom Stead represented GB in the recent European Sprint Triathlon championships. If that's not someting to celebrate, I don't know what is. Read Richard's lively report about the weekend:
TT result 13th June 2013: There were 18 riders this evening with Yvonne Cosbie making her TT debut and the field led home by Darren Preston, followed by “Mr Consistency” Adrian Taverna in second place. The wind and the weather had clearly deterred a few riders and with a strong south westerly the first 3 miles were into the wind making the climb up to the first turn a challenge.
TT result 20th June 2013: A few folk may regret not attending the TT this evening as the conditions were excellent as evidenced by the 6 PBs recorded . The heavy downpour had dissipated by the start of the TT and although the skies were grey and heavy there was hardly any wind for the 12 riders tackling the 11.2 mile sporting course.
TT Result 27th June 2013: Fresh from his superb performance at the European Sprint Tri, Tom Stead was fastest at the club Time Trial in very wet conditions, in a great time. Guest, Neil Wood, was second fastest, with Adrian Taverna, the next club member, beating the 30 minute barrier again.
The first Sunday club run in the new format found yet another very busy and active Market Square with about 40 club riders plus the Breeze riders taking the total to almost 50. With eight of the Club away at the Dragon Ride, the St Neots colours were out in force in Cambridgeshire and Wales today to the extent that a St Ives club member tweeted on how many St Neots riders were out today.
On 16th June 2013 the club held its inaugural weekly short ride. From now on there will be an option to ride about 25 miles at about 14 - 15 mph every Sunday. Twelve riders, some complete newcomers, other returnees and two new members Argo and Stas, assembled for the inaugural weekly Short Club Run which replaces the old monthly Intro Ride.
Sunday was dry, warm and relatively still and as a consequence about 45 riders turned up in the Market Square. The new regime is working well, but it means more separate groups on the road, so we can't expect reports from every group. But there were a couple of reports:
Tim Pennell, Wayne Tunnah, Dave Lindsay, Steve Muchmore and Richard Ostler represented the club 5th race of the Rockingham series. Richard and Wayne were in the middle 3rd cat group with seven 2nds starting 1.30 minutes behind. The 4th cat group, containing the other St Neots riders was 1.30 minutes ahead.
Ian Turner, riding for St Neots Cycling Club was fastest at the Team Cambridge Handicap 25, in a time of 57:53, on the E33/25 Bottisham course, on Wednesday 26th June. He was the only rider to beat the hour and more than 3 minutes faster than the next best. Darren Preston, riding in St Neots colours, posted an excellent fourth fastest in 1:03:08. Tye Liddle posted a good time of 1:07:58. Well done chaps.
Club BBQ held in glorious weather
Thanks to everyone who attended the club BBQ which was held last Sunday in fantastic weather. A great time was had by everyone who came along, young and old. Thanks to Wayne for his brilliant idea of bringing along a bouncy castle for the kids and thanks to everyone who donated yummy salads, puddings and cupcakes.
