Well, hasn't it been a hot couple of weeks? St Neots Cycling Club members have continued riding through the scorching weather. Events included our major handicap Time Trial, the Ashman Trophy, as well as several of our members completing an IronMan triathlon, riding road races, TTs, Sunday runs and other exploits. The date for this year's Annual Awards Dinner has been set - get your diaries out and pencil in 16th November 2013. Read more about it all below.
The Ashman competitors
Ashman: Goodsall, Hancock triumph
Goodsall and Hancock won the two trophies on offer at this year's Ashman Time Trial. Superb weather greeted the 21 riders ready to test themselves for the Ashman Trophy over 2 circuits of the Abbotsley course, and given the heat, many were thinking about how to pace themselves over the 22.4 mile circuit.
TT Report 11th July 2013. It was still 19 deg and sunny as the TT started but there was a stiff north-westerly breeze that would test the riders particularly through Waresley.
The almost perfect conditions produced 11 PBs this evening with Florence Lendrum taking 2.5 minutes off her PB and Yvonne Cosbie almost 2 minutes. Chapeau to Gareth Smith who started the season with a 33.14 for pushing under 30 minutes for the first time with a 29.50 and also good to see two of regular guest riders, Kevin Stokes and Paul Littledyke also turning in PBs this evening.
TT Results - 18th July 2013. This Thursday was a superb evening for the St Neots CC Time Trial with 22 riders out to test themselves on the challenging 11.2 mile sporting course. Richard Hancock, fresh from his triumph at the Club’s Ashman Trophy event the previous Saturday, turned in the fastest TT of the season with a superb 25.22
Following on from the hugely enjoyable and successful event last year, we are going back to the St Neots Golf Club for our Annual Awards Dinner on Saturday 16th November. All members and their partners and guests are warmly welcome. The price is likely to be of the order of £20 per head and more details will follow. Ensure you don't miss what promises to be the social event of 2013.
Three SNCC members do an IronMan
Ruth Stapleton, Tim Pennell and Phil Laycock completed an Ironman recently.
Report - 7th July 2013: Probably the hottest day of the year saw probably the biggest turnout of cyclists ever in the Market Square. The weather had tempted out the hordes, and with the Breeze ride also running, it was difficult to make an exact head count in the melee.
Report 14th July 2013: Another warm Sunday (although not as warm as expected) and some 35 riders turned up to the Market Square for the club run. The club continues to grow and it's good to see new faces as well as people who have been out with us before but have joined the club recently.
Club Run Report - 21st July 2013: This week we have a report from new father Chris P on the medium length route. Apparently there was a very big long route group. We haven't heard how the short route got on.
You see him here, you see him there...Read Steve's report about his excellent holiday onm the coast: "I managed to take the bike on yet another holiday earlier this month, this time to a cottage on the East Sussex coast..."
Last but not least - Matthew Preston was born at 1:03 am on the 15/7/13 to Alicja and Chris. The birth was slightly unusual as Chris had to deliver him himself in the car park attached to their flat as he didn't want to wait to get to hospital. Their neighbours helped with phone calls to the ambulance and towels...although no hot water like you might see in a western! Mother and son are doing well (and Chris is planning an Super Radonneur series this year - hmm...)
