Warmest night of the year and no PB’s

Perhaps a few looked at the hot weather and decided the TT was not for them tonight but this did not stop the 16 intrepid riders at the start line ready to take on the 11.2 mile course around Abbotsley and also the pending thunder and lightning.

Our local farmer, Pat, predicted that the storm was at least seven or eight miles away but this did not prevent a few anxious glances at the dark clouds gathering over the course.

A few drops of rain only on the course and with a wonderful wind on our backs there were a few PB’s up to the golf course turn at 3 miles. Any thoughts of PBs were then on hold as after the turn the wind was firmly in our faces and did not relent for the next few miles.

Despite the conditions there were three sub 26 minute times with Simon Murphy home fastest with a 25:27 followed by Simon Elkington and Nic Pillinger in second and third.

Good to see Nic back after an absence of a few weeks and also a welcome back to Mark Colmer who chose the hottest night of the year to make his 2019 TT debut.

In Mandy’s absence the timekeeping duties were shared between Simon Richardson and Mike Biggs and well done and thanks to both for taking on this responsibility.

Housekeeping : Reminder that the CTT levy increased to £3/TT for 2019 and a request that once the first riders have lined up for the start that other riders do not ride past the start line as part of their warm up.

Next TT – Thursday 1st August – Sign on by 7.00 and Start at 7.15 pm

Handicap Results

Quick reminder that for the Handicap Trophy points are awarded for the number of riders on the night less Guests and First Time Members. So tonight 16 riders and 15 points on offer. A Handicap Time of 25 minutes or less means that you have either matched your PB or improved on it. A Handicap Time greater than 25 minutes shows how much you are off your PB.

To be in contention to win the 2019 Handicap Trophy you need to do as many TTs as you can and ride as close to or improve on your PB consistently until the end of the season.

Congratulations to Simon Murphy for taking the maximum points on the night.

Handicap Trophy – 2019 – Running Total

The destiny of the 2019 Handicap Trophy remains undetermined as we enter the final phase of the season with 5 TT’s left.

For the leaders any TTs missed now could easily affect the outcome for the Trophy and riding to your PB or improving it for the next 5 events will certainly keep them in contention.

Simon Murphy has opened up 15.5 point lead over Simon Elkington but will this be enough to take home the Trophy or will Simon Elkington win for the third consecutive year?
