The first silverware of the 2012 season was now within the grasp of the 17 riders who gathered on Sunday 12th July to test themselves twice round the 11.2 mile TT course at Abbotsley - a 22.4 mile race.
19 at the TT last Thursday and welcome to a couple of “first timers” – Phil Laycock and Andrew Poodle – and welcome back to Andrew Kluth for his first TT of this season.
Ashman Trophy – 2012 – Sunday 8th July 2012
This Sunday sees the St Neots CC Club 22 Handicap TT. For club members, the Ashman Trophy is up for grabs, so you could go away with the first club silverware of the season.
Last Thursday, many of the riders found the conditions on 11.2 mile Abbotsley TT course very testing. The wind was not doing the riders any favours up to the turn for the golf club or later as they headed towards the Cinques.
13 riders last night tackled the Abbotsley course and once again some very strong performances especially from Jonathan Pang, Adrian Bloxham, Steve Rodley and Rob Black who all set PBs on what was a windy and cold evening.
Forget the Eurogoals, Wimbledon and the Olympics - the real and only action is taking place every Thursday at the St Neots Cycling Club TT!
A strong south-easterly wind was blowing across the course. Surprisingly, this favours good times, as it ensures that riders are fully warmed up before tackling the golf course section.
A strong south westerly brought rain in the early evening which cleared leaving the course wet and wind-swept, and resulted in the smallest TT turn-out so far this year.
This week there was a westerly wind on the course that dropped as the evening's racing progressed. Many riders are hoping to see a rise in temperature and an improvement in conditions as the season progresses to continue to better their own personal best times.
