SNCC Hill Climb 12th October

The second Sunday of October and you can guarantee rain. It’s the club hill climb and every year there is an autumn low blowing in the damp dregs of another Atlantic weather front. Except this year there wasn’t. Sunday dawned dry with just a trace of early morning mists over the Moor and not even Mr Preston’s name on the 19 strong start sheet could bring on a localised cloud burst.

The Staughton Moor drag may have been dry for a change, but the road has recently been resurfaced with everyone’s favourite, chip and tar. So a rougher and potentially slower circuit than previous years, but despite this, the first riders all put in solid performances, with none going over 6 minutes.

Eighth rider off, Christian Tregidgo, made the first sub-5 minute ride with a time of 4.43. It was a strong time. Marks Greenhow and Mossup, Dan Baxter and Simon Denny all broke the 5 minute barrier, but it was 16th rider John Sheasby who finally raised the bar with a time of 4.36. However, the competition was again blown away by defending champion Joe Finucane with a winning time of 4.20.
