2 PBs on a windy night

On yet another glorious evening for riding 20 riders were at the start line for the 12th SNCC TT of the 2018 season with 3 guest riders in attendance.

By the time of the first turn, at three miles, towards the golf club the omens were good with many enjoying a fast time with a fair wind on their backs only for the wind gods to take their revenge for the next 4 miles as we cycled into the headwind.

Despite this two riders – Daniel Grant and Martin Bond – clearly relished the conditions and posted the only 2 PB’s of the night. Congratulations.

Our young friend, Toby Atkins, currently over from New Zealand was fastest home this evening and took four seconds from his previous best around the 11.2 mile course followed by our own Simon Elkington and another guest Hayley Simmonds in third spot.

Special welcome to Hayley Simmonds former British National Time Trial Champion and winner of a bronze medal at the recent Commonwealth Games for England. She is returning from injury and was using the Abbo course as part of her return to full fitness. Despite her chain coming off at the bottom of Tetworth Hill she still posted a good time. Hayley’s currently UK National 10 & 25 ladies record holder at 18.36 & 49.28! 

Also good to see Alistair back in the saddle following his accident.

Average time this evening was 30:06 and to date 45 members have taken part this season. We would encourage more members to join us on a Thursday evening.

Handicap Results

Quick reminder that for the Handicap Trophy points are awarded for the number of riders on the night less Guests and First Time Members. So tonight 20 riders and 17 points on offer. A Handicap Time of 25 minutes or less means that you have either matched your PB or improved on it. A Handicap Time greater than 25 minutes shows how much you are off your PB.

To be in contention to win the 2018 Handicap Trophy you need to do as many TTs as you can and ride as close to or improve on your PB consistently until the end of the season.

Congratulations to Daniel for finding another 36 seconds of time and securing the maximum points this evening.

Handicap Trophy – 2018 – Running Total

Mr Consistency – Simon Elkington – remains at the top of the leaderboard and he might be the first to have “back to back” wins of the Handicap Trophy. Equally consistent Simon Murphy continues to keep Simon in his sights and the next 6 weeks will be interesting as some TT’s maybe missed due to holidays or watch out for a surge from Norman and Jim.

Another 6 TT’s with many points still on offer this season.
