Going by the table, I make this year's route to be a grade 2. Not completely flat, but hardly the L'etape :).

is it suggesting that climbing 3500m in 30km (a steady 10% / 1 in 10) is three times harder than climbing 3500m in 10km (a totally mental constant 1 in 3) or am I just too sleep deprived / Aussie wicket crazy to make sense of it?

It's not my cup of tea either Geoff, but they're getting ever more popular.
Reading between the lines, I think the subtext is that British Cycling will get round to some kind of standardisation/code of conduct (if they haven't already of course) for sportives which hopefully will stop people getting ripped off. You've only got to look at the amount of entrants and the entry fee to see some shady types might look at these and think it's ripe for the taking.

St Neots Sportivo classed as type C. if you are below type C standard, "Cycling could seriously affect your health".enter at your own discretion,, the club will not be responsible for any health issues whilst you RIDE your bicycle in this event.. all D E F G riders "stay away.we recommend all cyclists to know their limitations if in doubt take up crown green bowls or table tennis. ah ah Geoff............... :kiss: :kiss: :kiss:
