Garmin Varia - any thoughts?

Hello,
Brand new to the club and brand new to the UK as well having recently relocated from the US.
I did my first club ride this past weekend and very much enjoyed it, especially the relative safety (from traffic) I felt riding in a large group. I'm still coming to terms with riding on the "other" side of the road, but the narrowness of the roads here does leave me a bit nervous.

I've been googling and came across this device...
Garmin Varia

Does anyone have any experience with the Varia? Is it worth the cost or is it more a gimmick?
