Well done for getting the ball rolling on this Chris. Would people prefer to watch the start or be somewhere near the start- bearing in mind that it will be very crowded and we would have to be there early to get a good spot, or try to find somewhere on route as the riders leave Cambridge and head into Essex?
Has anyone already made plans or have any good ideas?

AFAIK, there's talk of some heading into Essex to see the flypast. If I decide not to work on the Monday, I was thinking of getting over to Great Shelford, but as I'm heading up for the grand depart, I'm not overly fussed. I'd avoid Cambridge like the plague.

I'm taking the day off as doing driving lessons in Cambridge is going to be a waste of time, so I'm all ears for ideas.

I'd imagine driving anywhere will be an absolute nightmare but that's not our scene anyway.

I was tempted to get down to Finchingfield, which will be a honey pot but very picturesque. It is however a fair trek, but you could probably park in somewhere like Eversden and then continue on bike from there. It is by no means a plan just an embryonic idea at this stage.

My very pregnant  (and understanding) Wife has just given me permission to enjoy the days festivities! Apologies as I am not offering any ideas etc, just wanted to let y'all know to include me in the headcount and I will be there!

wise words from Mrs T; I dragged Mrs R to the '07 tour in Kent where she waited until we were securely 'kettled' before deciding that 3 weeks early was an appropriate time to start having a baby

Possible, but are you going to have to go into Cambridge to get there? I was thinking Great Shelford because you can get across the M11 by taking the road out of Haslingfield and across the A10 at Harston, avoiding Cambridge altogether.

I am really surprised that nobody for the club has already started to the ball rolling on this , huge cycling event on our doorstep and nothing mentioned.

Yeah I think I see how you'd get there. I think you're too close to Cambridge without hitting traffic myself. The route I looked at getting to Gt. Shelford is 25 miles.
