A few results to report on and a few new names to Open TTs which is good news. If you do a TT outside of Abbo it would be good to receive a report.

Report from Paul:-

Having only returned to time trialling a couple of years ago since my twenties (50ish now!), this was my first 50 mile TT attempt. I hadn't planned on doing a 50 this year but the Abbo TTs were going well and keeping me motivated so I thought why not. It was hot, 28c, and I did not take enough drink with me! I went out too quick but fortunately managed to rein it in soon enough and get into a good rhythm. My dream had always been to sub 2 hours so I knew that if I could get to the final turn at Caxton having averaged 25mph on this multi lap course between Caxton and Madingley, I was in with a good chance as there was a slight westerly wind to blow me home. Having spoken to Nic at the end, we both recognised the wind had begun to shift a bit so the advantage wasn't that great but fortunately I had enough in the tank to come in at 1:59:50. I literally collapsed after the finish with dehydration and cramp but that did not matter one bit having achieved a goal that I thought was out of my reach previously. Thanks to people at the club for keeping me motivated with my return to time trialling, not sure I have a hundred TT in me but never say never!

Report from Nic:-

I rode the Viking 50 on the F2/50 course at Cambourne. I didn’t have the best preparation having only flown in from the USA the day before. Nonetheless, conditions were pretty decent - extra hot, with a favourable breeze from the west.

I adopted my familiar if somewhat dubious tactic of going out hard and hoping for a miracle. The first three 10 mile blocks were ticked off in 20:24, 20:34, and 20:35. Bang on schedule for a decent time. In the fourth 10 miles, things started to unravel a little, with a 20:54 split. Then it became a little more unpleasant with a mixture of heat and the jetlag draining my power. I booked a 21:37 for the final 10 and a bit miles.

Not a bad ride all things considered - 1:44:02, only 9 secs slower than my PB from earlier in the season. I placed 14th overall, but looking at other times it wasn’t a spectacular day, traffic definitely seemed lighter this time out.

I would still like to beat 29mph for the distance, so will have another crack this weekend.
