McDonald wins two trophies at the Ashman

It is doubtful that there are many bike trophies which have been contested since 1938 which include the Second World War years.

This is the case for the Ashman Trophy which for many years now has been awarded for the best handicap time for 2 laps of the 11.2 Abbotsley course. Mr Ashman used to own a newsagent shop in St Neots when he donated the trophy.

For many, who are comfortable with the usual 11.2 lap they need to consider pacing for the additional lap and gauge how hard to push in Lap 1 and then consider how much benefit they will gain from the second flying lap start.

14 riders gathered at 10am on Saturday 20th July and congratulations to all for taking part. For some this was their first experience of the two-lap format.

As always it is difficult to predict who will win the Ashman as a PB on one of the laps will usually determine the winner and this could come from any rider on the day.

Sam McDonald was on form today winning the two trophies on offer and our congratulations to Sam for a superb effort.

Simon Murphy was also on form with two second places and well done to Tom for a strong performance in the Handicap to take third place.

Have a look at the photos attached with this report and our thanks to Mandy , John and Mike for giving up their Saturday morning to let the rest of us ride.
