McDonald and Robertson take the Honours on the Opening Night

Our first TT of the 2020 season was scheduled for 30th April and 14 weeks later our first TT took place and 18 riders enjoyed very favourable conditions to test themselves on the 11.2-mile Abbotsley circuit. It is likely that this will be the final season for the old course as the upgrade to the A428 will impact in 2021 and we will need to find an alternative. The Club would like to thank all the members and guests who have signed up for TTs this year.

If you want to ride the course at least one more time then there are 3 TTs left – 13th, 20th and 27th- and you need to enter and pay in advance.

All riders had to book their slot in advance with limited socialising before and after the event and unfortunately, we were not able to enjoy Mandy’s wonderful home baking and a coffee afterwards.

This did not detract from an enjoyable evening and it is clear from the results that many must have been training through lockdown. On the night Sam McDonald was fastest and took another three seconds from his already impressive PB. We were delighted to have Hayley Simmonds join us as a guest and she has now set a new women’s course record of 25:34 and will be joining us for at least one more TT this year. In third and fourth places were the two “Simons” continuing their ongoing rivalry from 2019 with Simon M taking the honours this evening.

4 PB’s on the night led by Jim Robertson who took 1m 44s from his previous PB, Jamie Bishop improved by 1m 30s, Mandy Rodgers found another 6s and Sam squeezed out another 3s. Congratulations.

Good to see Ian Stokes, old friend of the Club, making his annual pilgrimage from Milton Keynes to join us and also good to see former member Nic Pillinger. Well done to Mark Greenhow for getting round in sub 30 minutes on his fixed wheel bike tonight.

Stephen Lyons, who was knocked off his bike a couple of months ago, was taking pictures on the course and encouraging riders and good to see that he is on the mend.

If you have not already entered for the 13th then you have until Tuesday 11th to enter and the Club will publish the start sheet on the 12th. If you have a number already then do not forget to take it next week and if you do not have a number yet then you will pick it up on the 13th. You are not allowed to enter on the day.

NEXT TT: 13th AUGUST AT 7PM – Please note the earlier start time and also note that the start time for the 20th and 27th will be 6.45pm.

Handicap Trophy – 2020

Although we only have 4 TTs this season the Handicap Trophy will be awarded to the rider with the most points on 27th August.

Leading the field at the moment is Jim Robertson who took the maximum 15 points on offer tonight (guests and first-time riders do not count towards the Handicap Trophy). To be in contention you need to ride to your PB or improve on it
