Brick defies the conditions for only PB tonight

The cycling gods turned up for the SNCC TT this evening allowing us to race in moderately warm conditions leaving behind the dull , cool and overcast conditions which prevailed in the morning.

However, they then decided to make life tough for the 22 riders at the start line for the 2nd SNCC TT of the season on the 11.2-mile Abbotsley track.

Head wind for the first 3 miles to the golf club turn followed by a favourable wind on the back to Waresley to be met again by the unrelenting head wind after the last turn for home which overall took its toll on any PB’s tonight apart from Simon Brick who found another 7 seconds. Only 5 riders were able to improve on their time from Week 1 – Sam, Simon M, Jonathan, Martin and Norman. Three guests from last week – Josh, Shaun and Chris -all improved their times.

Finding another 11 seconds over last week Sam McDonald posted another sub-25-minute time to be fastest home with the two Simon’s second and third.

Simon Brick took the maximum 15 points on offer in the Handicap Trophy competition.

7 guest riders joined us this evening and good to see very old friend of the Club, Ian Stokes back in action and also a welcome to two former members in Nic Pillinger and Danny Brooks.

After sharing the same time last week, the bragging rights in the Bond family remain with Martin (father) as he managed to find thirty-three seconds over son Richard. How long will he be able to retain this unexpected advantage?

We expect that as in prior years the Handicap Trophy for 2021 will be keenly contested. As covered below keep improving your PB over the next 17 weeks and it is likely that you will be in contention.

We look forward to more Club members joining us at the TT on a Thursday night.

A few housekeeping reminders to keep us all safe and compliant:

  • remember a working rear light – mandated by CTT
  • try not to ride past the start when other riders are starting
  • be aware of cars and other riders after you finish
  • even before covid, Timekeepers need to be able to concentrate on giving every rider the correct time. Please do not try to see your time until everyone has finished
  • Paying in advance is very helpful and thanks to the 19 riders who have done this. Pay for 6 rides (£4 for member, £5 for guest) to 404010 and 80724513 and credit will be carried over for any unused rides.

NEXT TT – THURSDAY 13th MAY – 7:00 pm START – SIGN ON BY 6:45 pam at the latest.

Handicap Trophy – 2021

Quick reminder that for the Handicap Trophy points are awarded for the number of riders on the night less Guests and First Time Members. So tonight 22 riders and 15 points on offer. A Handicap Time of 25 minutes or less means that you have either matched your PB or improved on it. A Handicap Time greater than 25 minutes shows how much you are off your PB.

To be in contention to win the 2021 Handicap Trophy you need to ride as close to your PB as possible or set some new PB’s over the next few months.

Congratulations to Simon Brick for taking the maximum points on offer tonight.
