5 PB’s on a warm spring evening  ...

This was much more like it for the third SNCC TT of the 2021 season having had to cancel the last two events due to the wind and the rain.

The conditions were much more favourable and they delivered 5 PB’s on the testing 11.2-mile Abbotsley track. The first 3 miles to the golf club turn could not have been better with a very favourable wind on the back.

Fastest home was Simon Elkington who managed to find another 10 seconds to take his PB down to 25:06 and he now has the sub-25-minute time firmly in his aim. Simon Murphy his old adversary took second place with a 25:33 and as he says he will now have to start ahead of Simon E. Guest rider Felix Barker found another thirty-six seconds over his first event with a creditable 25:44 for third place.

Congratulations to the five who posted PB’s on the night – David Rouse (1m:21s improvement), Simon Brick (1:06), Simon Elkington (0:10), Matt Gurnell (0:10) and Mandy Rogers (0:03).

David Rouse (although the lantern rouge) took the maximum 15 points on offer in the Handicap Trophy competition.

6 guest riders joined us this evening and good to see very old friend of the Club, Dom Whitehead back in action (despite the St Ives CC kit).

The bragging rights in the Bond family were restored this evening in favour of the son (Richard) who found five seconds over the old man.

Commiserations to Simon Richardson who had dusted down his trusty single speed for his first ride of the season only for his chain to snap in the first mile.

Our thanks to Florence Lendrum for stepping in to do the timekeeping in Mandy’s absence and also for father George agreeing to be her able assistant.

We expect that as in prior years the Handicap Trophy for 2021 will be keenly contested. As covered below keep improving your PB over the next 15 weeks and it is likely that you will be in contention.

We look forward to more Club members joining us at the TT on a Thursday night.

A few housekeeping reminders to keep us all safe and compliant:

  • remember a working rear light – mandated by CTT
  • try not to ride past the start when other riders are starting
  • be aware of cars and other riders after you finish
  • even before covid, Timekeepers need to be able to concentrate on giving every rider the correct time. Please do not try to see your time until everyone has finished
  • Paying in advance is very helpful and thanks to the 19 riders who have done this. Pay for 6 rides (£4 for member, £5 for guest) to 404010 and 80724513 and credit will be carried over for any unused rides.

NEXT TT – THURSDAY 3rd June – 7:15 pm START – SIGN ON BY 7:00 pm at the latest.

Some great photos were taken of the riders, see photo gallery here.

Handicap Trophy – 2021

Quick reminder that for the Handicap Trophy points are awarded for the number of riders on the night less Guests and First Time Members. So tonight 21 riders and 15 points on offer. A Handicap Time of 25 minutes or less means that you have either matched your PB or improved on it. A Handicap Time greater than 25 minutes shows how much you are off your PB.

To be in contention to win the 2021 Handicap Trophy you need to ride as close to your PB as possible or set some new PB’s over the next few months.

Congratulations to David Rouse for taking the maximum points on offer tonight.
