Simon Brick wins the 2021 Handicap Trophy...

It was good to see 20 riders at the start line this evening for the final TT of the 2021 season and probably the last TT on the 11.2 Abbotsley track with the pending upgrade to the A428 likely to impact on the course and we will be required to find an alternative track for 2022.

The evening was set up to be very interesting with only half a point separating Simon Brick and Sam McDonald to decide who would be the 2021 Handicap Trophy Winner.

Simon set another PB to take the title and our congratulations to Simon in his first season as an SNCC club member and his first season of TT. He opened the season with a 36:20 and ended with a 30:52 finding over four minutes improvement to take the Trophy with a total of 157.5 points.

In second place was Sam McDonald (winner in 2016) with 150 points. Sam’s average over 12 TTs was 24:18 with all rides sub 25 minutes including a PB of 23:54 the best time by a club member on the course.

In third place was Martin Bond with 123.5 points with an average of 30:15 over 13 TTs.

Stuart Williams in fourth place is worthy of a mention with a late run on the outside with 121 points also in his first season.

On the night Sam was fastest home in 24:20 followed by former member Nic Pillinger who set a PB with a 24:34 with Simon Murphy third in 25:40. Two sub-25-minute rides on the same night is excellent.

4 PBs were set this evening by club members Simon Brick, Stuart Williams, Frances Lammyman and Paul Williamson who found respectively 39-, 11-, 9- and 8-seconds improvement.

Good to see young Daniel Biggs back challenging his father again, however Mike took the honours this evening.

As we now wait another 34 weeks for the 2022 season to begin it is time to acknowledge the time and effort of the volunteers who allow the TT to happen and without whom there would be no TT. These include Simon Richardson. Mandy McEvoy, Florence Lendrum, George Lendrum, Norman King, Martin Bond and Alistair Henderson.

Thank you to all the members and guests who took part this year and always good to see Ian Stokes and Dom Whitehead back every year to support our TT.

Looking back over the season we had:

  • 50 riders – 34 members and 16 guests
  • 283 rides = 3,169 miles
  • 43 PBs were set
  • Best time by a club member of 23.54 by Sam McDonald
  • Notable improvements in PB over the season;
    • Simon Brick – 4:30m
    • Stuart Williams – 2:22m
    • Norman King – 2m
    • Mandy Rogers – 1:34m

Handicap Trophy – 2021

Quick reminder that for the Handicap Trophy points are awarded for the number of riders on the night less Guests and First Time Members. So tonight, 20 riders and 18 points on offer. A Handicap Time of 25 minutes or less means that you have either matched your PB or improved on it. A Handicap Time greater than 25 minutes shows how much you are off your PB. .
