This is what the Group 1 lads got up to:
On the draggy road up to Hatley the group 1 riders lifted the pace and gradually drifted off the front. Joe, Tim, Ade and Richard O made up a select group and we were soon powering along.
Approaching the turn to Bassingbourn we noticed some signs up for a race then spotted a marshal up ahead. We pulled over to find out what was going on and it turned out there was a running race heading towards us. The next few miles to Bassingbourn were taken slowly as we passed a steady stream of runners. There were a number of Riverside Runners and we gave them plenty of encouragement. A couple of lady runners also tried to hitch a lift, Tim seemed quite willing to accommodate them on his top tube...
We left the runners behind and headed to Therfield climb, the only serious hill of the day. We had a good ride to Sandon and now we picked up a tailwind for a swift ride back to St Neots and coffee (thanks Joe!). Once again a quick ride averaging 20mph.
