‘Summertime and the livin' is easy’ - so Ella Fitzgerald sang or should it be ‘cycling is easy’. Well, with wall to wall sunshine it certainly made cycling far easier than in recent weeks.
Today 24 cyclists met on the Market Square and like most weeks we were pleased to see potential new members, so a big welcome to Barry, John, Robin and Lynette. It was also good to see Geoff Smith, Phil Carter and Andy Kinglake back after a long break.
With such large numbers we decided that group 1 and 2 should leave separately to avoid problems on the road with cars overtaking. Group 2 made a slight detour to the published route after feedback from Bomber who had ridden the route on Saturday. After a most enjoyable ride group 2 completed 45 miles without any incidents to report.
Seven riders committed to Group 1 and headed down to Ashwell. From Ashwell we took a new route to the Old Warden/Cardington Circuit via Shefford. The Shefford section was nothing special, but we soon found ourselves riding through shady woodland around Ireland. A minor navigation error took us on a fast detour along the A600, but we were soon back on track riding through Cardington. About 60miles covered at 19.5mph
Well done Team Sky, an excellent Tour and a magnificent finish.
