Sixteen hardy riders met at the market square on this cold, wet and windy morning. It was good to see Dan, (whom most of us met at the AGM) out on his first club ride. We also had two new prospective members who rode all the way from Cambourne to join us, so it’s welcome to Mark and Lewis.
Is this the start of the ‘Cambourne Collective’? - that makes it three riders from that splendid town. After a quick discussion, Richard Wales agreed to lead Group 1 and Mark Colmer led Group 2
Group 2
Eleven Group 2 riders left St Neots and headed out to Stonely then turned off onto the Easton Road. Just before we got to the T junction at Stow Road I shouted to lead man, Tim to turn left but he immediately turned right. Mark had to explain to our new riders that left and right was never Tim’s strongest point.
We then battled on against the wind through Covington and on to Shelton. From Upper Dean, we carried on to Riseley and just before Thurleigh we turned off to Ravensden. As usual, Ravensden Hill caught out those riders new to this route.
From Wilden we sped through Colmworth, preparing ourselves for ‘The Bushmead Sprint’. This week the chequered flag was taken by David Lindsay (the old dog) by letting Lewis doing all the hard work then pipping him at the post.
It was then back to the Market Square for a much needed coffee and a humorous debrief. This week we covered just over 41 miles at a good pace.
Group 1
Unfortunartely there was a crash in Group 1 that disrupted the ride for a while. Best wishes to Gareth for a swift recovery from his busted collar bone and we all hope to see him fully recovered and back out with us very soon. Richard W stayed with Gareth and the rest completed the ride.
