25 Riders braved the dank and foggy weather to take part in the first 2013 Sunday Club Run. The signs for a trouble-free club run were poor as Ash arrived on the Market Square at 8:30 asking for a pump as Steve Muchmore had a puncture a mile outside St Neots - his second of the day!
Group 1 had an Anglo-French route organised, although Steve Blows made some slight alterations to it in order to avoid crossing the A1 at Sandy. Unusually Group 1 set off before Group 2, and weren't seen again by your correspondent.
13 Group 2 members left the Market Square with rear lights blazing and headed out to Gamlingay via Tetworth Hill. Talk soon got round to the upcoming TT season.
Riding through Gamlingay we were joined by Stephen Lyons who did a long tuern on the front and took us through Potton and Biggleswade. As we reached Southill the fog started to thin out and we thought the sun was just around the corner, but as we sped through Cardington the fog seemed worse again. From Cople we turned right onto the Northhill Road but the group soon split as we took on Sheerhatch Wood Hill. After regrouping at the Moggerhanger Road junction we carried on through Blunham, Gt Barford and Colmworth and all thoughts were now on the Bushmead Sprint.
Once we hit the Bushmead Road the group push on at a fast pace, rotating the lead and just before we approached the finish Ash leapt out from the wheel he was following and hung on to take the chequered flag. This week Group 2 covered 43 miles, believe it or not, without any punctures after all. (Now you've gone on put a curse on this week's run - Ed).
Back at Nero's we were joined by David L's baby daughter, our youngest potential member, who giggled at all the funny men in lycra.
