Hi,
We have a new ride replacing the chain gang for winter... its the Winter Basemile ride.
Please find the route here :
ridewithgps.com/routes/10371684 ( 37 miles )
This is NOT a chain gang ride, its a nice easy paced base mile ride, zone 2 / 3 for all you zonal geeks
Everyone is welcome, meet at 7pm in the market square and bring decent lights.
Cheers,
Joe

define "nice easy pace" as this could be right up my street for getting some miles in.

Chris, I saw a couple of comments on twitter about the pace. Is there any reason why there can't be a couple of groups - one setting a more gentle pace. I'm hoping to get out a few times, but I'll be on a single speed with a panier or ruc-sac comeing straight form work, so will be going steady

Good idea,it seems that other people are saying this too,as still no word of the pace of the group but I would have thought that eyeballs out on those roads in the dark probably isn't the best idea.

For clarification.
The ride has been going for a few weeks now and is proving to be relatively popular with numbers in the low double figures each week. We go round the same route each week (37 miles), which is mainly back roads with very little traffic and maintain an average pace of circa 18 mph. The ride is probably the most social ride of the week not only due to pace but the amount of hot air that gets produced during the evening.
If you would like to join the ride then we look to leave the square at about 7:05 as we need to accommodate those who are always late, the official leaving time is 7:00. No one gets dropped, but we are reliant on people speaking up if they are having a bad day.
Stating the obvious but a good set of lights to see with rather than be seen with is useful as most of the roads are unlit.
Gary

I never usually let the weather stop me doing things, but have you seen the forecast for later; 50 mph winds. Is the ride still going ahead tonight and if so will you guys surround me the whole way so I don't get blown away? Thought it might be helpful to give you my blackberry number; 07826953175
Thanks
Teresa
