After the Olympics and Paralympics, the World Transplant Games doesn't get much coverage, but I think it's an equally amazing achievement for all the competitors taking part.

A friend of mine, Chris, is an ex motorcycle racer. He suffered kidney failure in 2001 after contracting a throat infection, and received dialysis treatment for two years before his dad was found to be a match and a successful transplant carried out.

He has been selected to compete in the cycling events at the World Transplant Games in Durban after competing in the British Transplant Games, but all competitors have to raise their own funds for the travel, accommodation, sporting equipment and uniforms as there is no national funding for this organisation. This normally comes to around £1800.
