Hi,
I have recently moved to St Neots and would love to join the St Neots cycling club although from reading the club run reports I don't think that I not quite ready for minimum 45 mile rides! It also seems that generally there is not a cafe stop half way round? At the moment, weather permitting, I generally do around 20 miles with this building to perhaps 30 miles when I can get out more frequently.
In a long winded way I guess my question is have many people enquired about setting up a lower group who could do slightly shorter distances than the more athletic participants!

Hello Stu,
First of all, it's good to see new people on the forum and we welcome your input.
The subject of Group 3 is frequently discussed and although, currently, there is no formally organised Group 3 ride, there have been occasions recently where a third group has formed naturally during the Sunday Club Run. It is a topic that continues to surface as the membership of the club increases and there does seem to be a growing appetite.
In reality, it largely depends on who turns up on a Sunday morning: the mix of people and range of abilities varies from week to week.
I'm not sure whether you have ever ridden in a group before but it is safe to say that people are often amazed at how much further and faster they ride in a group, as compared with riding alone. Aside from the benefits of drafting, the miles can often zip by when in company.
In a nutshell, I would urge you to come along and try a Sunday club run. Even if you do not yet feel ready for 40+ miles, you can always come and ride with the group for a while (say 10 to 15 miles) before peeling off and returning home if you wish.
Hope to see you out with us soon.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the reply, not ridden in a bunch before so not sure of the benefits but will come along on Sun and give it a try. Is it still 8.30am outside Nero?

There will be plenty of options for shortening the route sunday if you wish
connect.garmin.com/course/2639040 but you might find that as Steve said once in the group it is generally easier than riding on your own.
look forward to seeing you sunday.
Chris.

Just wanted to say thanks for making me feel so welcome on the ride today, especially Alistar for sticking with me at the back, sorry I wasn't able to complete the run with you all but will put in some individual training to build up my fitness before joining you all again.

Good to see you today.
One way of training might be to have a look at the route, set off with us then see how you feel and if its a bit too much with the group just peel off and do your own thing.
You may find that the amount of time with us will start to increase.
Well done again today and hope to see you soon.
Chris.

Stuart, good going for making it along. Alistair is good like that (as he accosted me when I was out training solo last year).
Small moves, as Chris says even if you make an extra 4 or 5 miles each week you'll soon be riding the whole route with the group. Just make sure you have got food/drink with you as the miles increase. Chap at Trisport Plus (Huntingdon) is quite helpful with drinks etc if you've not got a preference already (and club members get a discount)
