Following the end of the Chain Gang and the Weekly Social Rides we are looking at introducing a weekly Saturday Morning Ride at 0900 beginning Sat 7th Sept. This would also give members who can't ride on a Sunday the opportunity to ride on a Saturday with the club.

Justin Lomas has agreed to champion this and we hope we can get a reasonable turn-out.

Saturday Morning Training - update from Justin 05.09.24

It’s not a social ride (plenty of options for that on Sunday, 9am St Neots Market Square) and it’s not a chain gang (you’ll have to wait until next year!) And it’s not a race, so no sprinting for town signs or dropping people out of the corners!!

It’s a training session and everyone should feel they are getting the most of it which means catering for a range of abilities and experience. This can be tricky, especially with ‘through and off’ but less experienced riders need to learn that skill, and gain confidence.

So the plan is to ride out together as a group to a short-ish circuit. Once there we’ll ride ‘at pace’ with each rider doing a short turn on the front and for those who don’t want to, they can take shelter from the riders in front (which is also a skill in itself!) Hopefully we’ll have enough riders and it’ll naturally split into 2 maybe even 3 groups of varying abilities. I am more than happy to help riders build their confidence and skills whatever their physical ability. And learning to ride through and off is a way for everyone to go faster and more safely.

As it’s a short circuit, if anyone is really struggling they can drop off, turn round and wait for the group to come round next time and jump back in. People can also choose to head-off once they’ve done enough and for those that are left we can ride home together with an optional coffee en route or in St Neots.

I’m suggesting for the first week we ride out from the Market Square to Gamlingay via the Cinques (turn right at the top on to Drove Road), to a circuit starting at the junction of Heath Road, Potton Road and Everton Road. Circuit will go east along Everton Road, left into Potton Road, left again into Potton Road back to start. Strava shows this as a 4km circuit with an 11km ride out. We can decide the number of laps depending on who turns up but I’d expect to do a total ride of about 50km.
