A strong squad of St Neots Cycling Club riders headed over to Old, Northamptonshire for the second road race of the year in the Northants Cycle Racing Association series hosted by 45 Road Club and were rewarded with an excellent set of results.

The race format is a handicap with riders going off in groups with the strongest riders going last. The distance is typically three laps of a ten mile circuit.

After a hard fought race that saw the entire field of sixty riders come together on the final lap, young Jacob Hennessey, just 18, riding his first race of the year managed to move to the front of the field and claim his inaugural win. Complementing his efforts were two other St Neots riders with top ten finishes with David Palmer 5th and Joe Finucane 9th.

Jacob, a Titan Motorsport apprentice, has been training with St Neots Cycling Club for the last 18 months and has been supported and encouraged by the more experienced riders. He now rides on the weekly Sunday-rides and Tuesday chain-gang with the club. He fits in extra training in the week by riding after work.

The racing now moves to St Neots with the club hosting the third race in the March series of NCRA races on the 21st March and we'll be hoping history repeats itself, which last year saw the club's rider, Joe Finucane, record a home victory.

Representing the club at Old were: Jacob Hennessey, David Hennessey (Jacob's Dad), Joe Finucane, David Palmer & Lewis Rooney.

If you have an interest in racing or just cycling in general the club has an organised ride every Sunday leaving St Neots Market Square at 8:30 or you can contact the club for further information via the club website on http://www.stneotscyclingclub.info/contact
