Tim Pennell, Wayne Tunnah, Dave Lindsay, Steve Muchmore and Richard Ostler represented the club 5th race of the Rockingham series. Richard and Wayne were in the middle 3rd cat group with seven 2nds starting 1.30 minutes behind. The 4th cat group, containing the other St Neots riders was 1.30 minutes ahead.

The 3rd cat group didn't organise especially well, but still flowed better than the ragged 4th cats and the catch was made twenty minutes in to the race.

After the catch the pace lifted significantly as breakaways tried to establish and eventually three riders slipped off the front. The were a few more attempts to reel them in but when the 2nds caught us with twenty minutes to go they were still dangling ahead with a 15 second advantage.

In the closing stages the bunch started to get twitchy and nervous; there was some choice language flung around and a couple of close misses, but St Neots riders managed to keep out of trouble and all were safe in the bunch heading into the final lap.

With the breakaway still free and no prospect of the bunch catching them we were left to sprint it out for the minor places. The pace was high and an attack heading into the headwind drag 2 bends before the finish quickly translated into an early sprint. The pack lengthened and split, and Richard, Wayne and Steve were all well positioned in the front quarter of riders. Around the final bend and the sprint kicked again. Wayne took 9th, Richard 13th and Steve 16th with David and Tim finishing on the bunch.

Once again we placed a rider in the top ten and it was excellent to see everyone finish in the bunch; the race legs and confidence are clearly coming along. However I'm starting to think that perhaps it's time the clubs 3rd cats should be getting a little more aggressive. Rather than just covering the moves it's time we started attacking and making the moves!
