Pillinger wins again with another PB...

A superb evening for the 5th SNCC TT of the season and the warm benign conditions were enjoyed by 26 riders around the 11.2 mile Abbotsley course. The wind on our backs for the first 3 miles to the golf club turn made for a very good start to the TT.

The portents were all in place for a number of PBs to be delivered this evening and there were 8 in total, led by James Dent taking 55 seconds from his PB followed by Pat ( 36 seconds) , Wayne ( 27s) , Ruth ( 21s) , Nic ( 13s) , Mick ( 11s) , Dawn ( 7s) and Dave Salmon ( 3s). Well done to all eight.

Good to see James and Wayne from the SNCC Road Race team testing their legs and it is over 2 years since Wayne took part in our TT. Also a welcome to first timer Alan Hurst who says that he will be back for more. The warm conditions also induced Chris Green, Simon Murphy and George Lendrum to make their first appearances of the season although Simon did say that he was suffering after a hard chain gang on Tuesday.

So far this year 35 club members have tried the TT and we would encourage more club members to come a give the TT a try. There is a range of abilities and you do not need a TT bike or the pointy helmets to just enjoy a very different biking experience and, of course, Mandy’s wonderful home cooking at the end plus tea and coffee.

Remember that the Ashman Trophy (2 x Abbotsley) takes place on 16th July (this trophy dates back to 1938) and to be eligible you need to have taken part in at least 2 TTs this season. Points on the day towards the Handicap Trophy as well.

TT Results

Nic Pillinger was once again fastest on the night with his fifth consecutive sub 26 minute lap and his third PB of the season to date. Sam was second and only 2 seconds from his PB and James, as noted, took 55 seconds from his previous time around Abbotsley to complete the top three.

Handicap Results

Quick reminder that for the Handicap Trophy points are awarded for all number of riders on the night less Guests and First Time Members. So tonight 26 riders and 22 points on offer. A Handicap Time of 25 minutes or less means that you have either matched your PB or improved on it.

A handicap time > 25 minutes shows how much you missed your PB by. To be in contention for points you need to ride close to your PB or improve on it.

Congratulations to James for securing the maximum points on the night and good to see young Pat ( he is only 63 years old ) almost dancing a jig of delight when he found out his time.

Handicap Trophy

We are now almost a third of the way through the season and the race for the 2017 Handicap Trophy remains very close at the moment. Simon and Nic lead with 73 points followed closely by Dave on 70 points with the top 3 opening up a lead on 4th place Francis. Once the holiday season approaches (and some TTs are missed) the position can quickly alter and the lead change.
